About gardening in apartments – container gardens.

I love gardening! In the town where I live, we are on the 2nd floor. We get a lot of sunlight especially in the living room. I have set up a shelf on top of 2 end tables and I have a lot of plants there which gives the room a very ‘country’ feel. My hands were itching to have more than these ornamental plants, so I started a container garden growing strawberries, tomatoes and herbs.

I hear that tomatoes are very expensive in India. Container gardens to grow tomatoes  are the best! There is an organization called ‘Growhouse’ in India that is encouraging people in urban areas to grow your own greens and other vegetables. They have – Easy grower kits, hydroponic kits etc. They plan to have these at Farmers markets in all urban areas. The first such ‘Growhouse’ was at the Pune Farmers market on Aug 3rd at the Westin Hotel.
